May is Spring time and the bright green of the Emerald gemstone is fitting for the May Birthstone. Emeralds name comes from the Greek word "smaragdus" which means green stone.


Emerald Meaning: 

Emeralds symbolize love and abundance. They originated from Egypt, where they were symbolic to fertility and rebirth and were a well known remedy to treat eye diseases. Cleopatra was known for adorning herself with emeralds.

Emeralds are also known to be associated with Venus, which is the goddess of love and beauty. Ancient Greeks believed that emeralds would protect them unfaithfulness. It was believed that the stone would always shine green as long as their partner was faithful as well.

The gemstones are tied to the heart chakra, They are rumored to help open your heart and draw love into your life, both romantic and platonic.


Birth Flower:

The May birth flower is the lily of the valley. The scientific name "Majalis" means "belonging to May" which makes it especially fitting to be the birthday flower for May.

The Lily of the valley flowers are commonly found to be white, which is why they are associated with traits like motherhood and sweetness. They also symbolize "a return to happiness." It is a common flower used around Easter and at weddings.
